The New Zealand Falcon ( also known as a Karerea) is New Zealand's only falcon while it's commonly mistaken for a common swamp harrier. Only 3000 - 5000 mating pairs are left in existence. The conservation status they put them under is near threatened but I personally believe that their more on the critical because of their numbers. The reason that their numbers are so low is because of farmers shooting them as their considered as pests by farmers.

This is awesome Darrien - thanks for your informative post about your bird mascot. It is quite sad to hear there are so few of them 3000-5000 and if I drive a long way in New Zealand, I do see them in flight from time to time, and I have seen a few of them squished on the road as well. I hope they survive and your post will raise awareness of how precious and special they are. CARE card issued 3/8/2020
